Relive Kyoorius Designyatra 2012 | The Divide

The Kyoorius DesignYatra 2012 explored the theme “The Divide,” delving into issues dividing the creative industry’s output and seeking insights and resolutions. Held from August 30 to September 1, 2012, in Goa, the conference featured notable speakers:

  1. Aapo Bovellan – Director of Brand and Marketing, Nokia
    Aapo shapes Nokia’s worldwide advertising and brand identity, leveraging his experience from advertising agencies and studies at Helsinki School of Economics. He collaborates with design teams to enhance the brand’s connection with consumers and create impactful campaigns.
  2. Arunachalam Muruganantham – CEO, Jayaashree Industries
    Arunachalam Muruganantham, an Indian social entrepreneur, invented an affordable machine that produces sanitary towels, empowering low-income women by providing them access to affordable hygiene products and income opportunities. His innovative approach earned him awards and recognition, with over 600 machines from his company, Jayaashree Industries, now helping women across 23 Indian states.
  3. Bill Lunderman – VP, Global Design, Colgate Palmolive
    William is the Vice President Global Design at Colgate Palmolive, overseeing visual branding and package design for their brands worldwide. With an extensive career spanning prestigious design studios and corporate roles, he brings a versatile creative background and has received industry recognition, while also engaging in promoting design among young people.
  4. Hanif Kureshi – Senior Creative, w+k Delhi
    Hanif Kureshi (29) is an art director/graphic designer with a Fine Arts background from M.S. University of Baroda. Currently a senior creative at Wieden+Kennedy, Delhi, he’s known for his fascination with typography, exhibited work, and street art in addition to his advertising career.
  5. Joachim Sauter – Chairman and Head of Design, ART+COM
    Joachim Sauter, an interdisciplinary artist and designer, co-founded ART+COM in 1988, focusing on exploring digital technologies for artistic expression. He has exhibited globally and earned numerous awards, including the ‘Golden Lion, Cannes’, while also serving as a professor at the University of the Arts Berlin and UCLA.
  6. Josy Paul – Chairman & NCD, BBDO India
    Josy started BBDO India from the backseat of his car in 2008. In 2016, he was named ‘Creative Agency Head of The Year’ by the Indian Advertising Association (IAA). He was inducted into Advertising Club Calcutta’s Hall of Fame in 2020. He is ranked among the most influential people in Indian advertising – according to The Economic Times. Josy and his team won the inaugural Glass Lion Grand Prix at Cannes in 2015 for Whisper ‘Touch The Pickle’. They also won the Cannes Lion Gold in 2015, 2016 and 2017 for Ariel ‘Share The Load’.
  7. Karl Heiselman – CEO, Wolff Olins
    With 20+ years in branding and design, Heiselman’s transformative work at Wolff Olins spans clients like (RED), Skype, and GE. He expanded the firm’s expertise into product development, innovation, and business strategy, having previously founded The Farm and led creative efforts at Swatch Lab.
  8. Kentaro Kimura – Co-CEO, Executive Creative Director & Account Planner, Hakuhodo Kettle
    Kimura, at Hakuhodo since 1992, created an innovative approach blurring strategic, creative, and digital boundaries. He founded Hakuhodo Kettle in 2006, known for groundbreaking campaigns, and has won numerous awards while remaining passionate about his work and global travel.
  9. Lies Willers – Director, Opera Amsterdam
    Lies Willer excels in integrated design for both cultural and commercial spaces, spanning museum interiors to personal homes. Opera’s diverse portfolio features projects across the UK, Europe, and beyond, with Lies also engaging in teaching and advisory roles within the design field.
  10. Mansukhbhai R. Prajapati – Founder, Mitticool Clay Creation
    Mitticool Clay Creation, founded by Mr. Mansukhbhai Prajapati, is a small-scale industry in Wankaner, Rajkot district, producing innovative clay products. Mr. Prajapati’s dedication and creativity have earned him patents and recognition, including being honored as a ‘rural scientist’ by the President of India.
  11. Marian Bantjes – Graphic Artist, bantjes.com
    Marian Bantjes, based on an island near Vancouver, is a versatile creative known for her typography, design, art, and writing. Her work, featured in global publications and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, reflects obsession, beauty, and intellect, while her talks include a TED Conference and membership in the Alliance Graphique Internationale.
  12. Masashi Kawamura – Creative Director & Founder, PARTY Tokyo & New York
    Masashi, born in Tokyo and raised in San Francisco, is the Creative Director and Founder of Creative Lab PARTY in Tokyo & New York. With a background in agencies like Wieden + Kennedy and BBH, he’s garnered awards from prestigious events such as Cannes Lions and D&AD, and has been recognized by Creativity magazine and Fast Company for his creativity.
  13. Michael Gough – VP, Experience Design, Adobe
    Michael Gough is Adobe’s Vice President of Experience Design, leading Adobe’s Experience Design Team (XD) in crafting next-gen digitally enabled experiences. With a rich background in design leadership roles at companies like Macromedia and Nike, he brings a focus on quality to digital innovation.
  14. Nic Roope – Founder & ECD, Poke UK
    Nicolas has led a distinguished career in design and media, founding influential companies like Antirom, Poke, Hulger, and Plumen. He’s recognized for his contributions through awards, media coverage, and his roles as a member of the Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, Webby Ambassador, and chair of the Lovie Awards.
  15. Paul Barnes – Director/ Designer, Commercial Type, UK
    Paul Barnes is a British graphic designer with a specialization in typography and type design. He co-founded Commercial Type, collaborated with renowned designers, and has been recognized with awards and accolades, contributing significantly to the fields of typography and graphic design.
  16. Rodney Edwards – Principle Design Manager, Microsoft
    Rodney is a leader in media app design for Windows 8 OS and previously contributed to design strategy for Bing and Windows Live at Microsoft. As a co-founder of the London-based consultancy Edwards Churcher, he worked with leading brands, taught, and gained recognition in various publications.
  17. Sander Ejlenberg – Creative Director, Icemobile & Muse
    Sander Ejlenberg, Creative Director of ICEMOBILE, bridges service design and advertising to establish innovative digital relationships for global retail, banking, and entertainment brands, earning multiple awards. Formerly from Smart Design and Razorfish, he co-founded MUSE and merged it with ICEMOBILE, contributing to its growth as a prominent mobile agency with 100+ professionals.
