Studio Lotus is a globally recognised, multi-disciplinary design practice founded in 2002. Spanning the domains of Master Planning, Architecture, and Interior Design, the work of the award-winning practice is grounded on the principles of Conscious Design—an approach that celebrates local resources, cultural influences, an inclusive process, and keen attention to detail.

Some of the studio’s most significant projects include an upcoming museum complex for the Aga Khan Trust for Culture at the Qutb Shahi Gardens in Hyderabad; RAAS Hotels—in Jodhpur, Kangra and Lake Chhatrasagar; Krushi Bhawan in Odisha; high-rise residential and commercial developments for the Max Group; the headquarters of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Bhubaneswar; and 3 marquee projects within the Godrej Trees project in Vikhroli, Mumbai. Ongoing projects include a Visitor Centre within Jodhpur’s Mehrangarh Fort precinct; the new Royal Enfield’s headquarters in Chennai; and several pan-India hospitality commissions, including those for the Taj & Oberoi Groups of Hotels.

Ambrish’s role is largely studio-focused, leading design processes that direct the trajectory of projects. He is deeply involved with assessing benchmarks of innovation and sustainability for the studio’s ongoing work—including aspects related to thermal comfort, and localisation of material and process. Ambrish has persistently campaigned for the revival of crafts and the amalgamation of vernacular wisdom with modern building practices; an advocate for frugal and passive means of construction— relevant to the sub-continent, and often achieved through integration of artisanal skillsets—as a means to achieve cultural, social as well as environmental sustainability. He is a custodian of the guiding values that have served as a cornerstone for the practice since its inception, and is personally involved in leadership development for the studio’s teams. Ambrish’s writings and work have been published extensively in India and internationally. Aside from being an amateur triathlete and meditator, Ambrish has a keen interest in promoting inclusivity and consciousness as a ‘way of working’ in organizations. He is a mentor to many creative businesses and believes in embedding self-awareness as a cornerstone of organizational and team development.
