Dhairya Dand is a researcher and artist at the MIT Media Lab based in Cambridge. His work focuses on augmenting senses, creating new emotions, inciting curiosity, remote learning, sexual pleasure, toys and (mythology X sciFi) by exploring and manipulating properties of objects, materials and spaces while creating new experiences.
His works have been regularly exhibited around the world at venues such as the Singapore Arts House, MIT Museum, Tokyo Design Week among others; his research published at CHI, TEI, UIST; and work showcased on major online and offline print and broadcast media such as TIME Magazine, BBC, Discovery, The Wall Street Journal, WIRED.
In 2014, WIRED honored him as one of the world’s 12 ‘Innovation Fellows’, in 2013 the Boston Globe named him in the ‘Top 25 Innovators’ list, and the Contagious magazine placed him in the ‘Ones to watch’ list.
He has studied and worked in Bombay, Singapore, Phnom Penh, Tokyo, New York, London, and Cambridge and wishes to continue his cross-cultural wanderings. He grew up in a forest, had a monkey as a pet, and was trained as a plumber. Now he lives in an urban forest, has a hamster as a pet, and is perfectly unemployable.
