Nicolas has always looked beyond industry rhetoric to the inspiring truths of networked media and design; this passion driving his career in the business spanning the last seventeen years. Nicolas founded Antirom, Poke, Hulger and Plumen, all companies of note and all influential and innovative in their respective spheres. All of these endeavors have been recognized by international industry awards and media attention.
He is a long standing blogger, tweeter and frequent contributor to industry and cultural magazines, sites etc and his work and ideas have been widely distributed through the on and off-line worlds.
Nicolas was appointed member of the Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences in 2006 ( www.iadas.net/ ) and is the UKâ€™s Webby Ambassador. He co-chairs Internet Week Europe, an annual, open source festival that launched in London in November 2010 and is also the chair of the Lovie Awards, the pan-European award for outstanding achievement in internet related endeavors. He also sits the UK Superbrands Council.
In 2004 Nicolas founded Hulger, another creative slant on technology, but in this instance physical. Two of Hulgerâ€™s phone designs and their Plumen low energy light bulb concept were included in MoMA New Yorkâ€™s permanent design collection in 2008. The Hulger story has been featured in worldwide press including the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Creative Review, Vogue, ELLE, GQ, The Times and The Guardian. The Plumen 001 designer energy saving light bulb was the winner of the Brit Insurance Designs of the Year 2011 prize, one of the design worldâ€™s most coveted. Plumen 001 was also recognized by a D&AD black pencil.
