Alexis Hope
Researcher and Designer, MIT Media Lab,

Alexis is a researcher and designer and a soon-to-be graduate from the Media Lab from the Center for Civic Media group. This research group is especially known for being pioneers in community-focused design processes, projects related to future of news & journalism, and civic engagement projects.

She is the driving force (and the lead designer) behind the FOLD project – a reading, authoring and publishing platform that allows for non-linear storytelling and contextualized narratives. This new project is garnering a lot of interest amongst journalists and bloggers, and is at the cusp of a wide public launch. It’d be cool for people in India to get a first-hand look at how such a project is designed & architected and possibly use it for their own personal/professional authoring purposes.

Originally from Seattle, she also has a penchant for low-cost design innovations for communities worldwide, as she’s done extensive fieldwork and design studies in developing countries. Alexis is an NSF Graduate Research Fellow and was also recently awarded the MIT Graduate Woman of Excellence Award.
