John Jay

John C Jay is a partner of Wieden + Kennedy in Portland Oregon and serves as the Global Executive Creative Director. He opened the W+K Tokyo and Shanghai offices, living in Tokyo for 6 years. There he launched W+K Tokyo Lab, the agency‚ independent music label.

Previously in Portland, Jay was the Co- Creative Director of the Nike account.



Prior to Wieden + Kennedy, Jay was the Executive V.P. / Director of Marketing and Creative Services for Bloomingdale, in New York City. He traveled the world extensively working in fashion marketing and retail first as an art director and creative director during his 12 year tenure.

He was once named by I.D. Magazine as ‘40 Most Influential’ in design. His book, Soul of the Game was named ‘14 most beautiful books in the world’‚ by The Copenhagen Museum. It also won the gold medal at the prestigious Leipzig book fair. His creative work has appeared as a part of various exhibitions in international galleries and museums including New York, Paris, Frankfurt and St. Petersburg.

Jay also serves as Creative Director for his own creative consultancy, Studio J with loft space in Old Chinatown of Portland. Studio J focuses on new lifestyle concepts investing and designing residential spaces, commercial real estate development, restaurants and product design and development.Recent projects include design and co-ownership of PING, named ‘Ten best new restaurants in America’ by GQ Magazine.

To encourage young Asian student to pursue a study or career in the arts, he set up the Jay Scholarship Fund at The Ohio State University‚ College of the Arts.
