Bruce Duckworth and David Turner are designers, close friends and founders of Turner Duckworth, the brand design agency based in London and San Francisco. They started the company in 1992. Bruce is based in London and is jointly responsible for Turner Duckworth’s creative output with David, who is based in San Francisco. The studios work collaboratively, which gives a unique design viewpoint, but means Bruce has had to work late for the last 17 years because of the time differences. No pain, no gain!
Turner Duckworth’s mission is to create Iconic Design for culturally significant consumer brands in three categories: Established global leaders (Eg: Coca-Cola, Levi Strauss & Co., Kraft Foods) ambitious entrepreneurial brands (Eg: Virgin Atlantic, Liz Earle, Plantronics) and design led retailers (Eg: Waitrose, Homebase, Superdrug).
Turner Duckworth has won over 200 international design awards including everything from the coveted D&AD pencil and 16 Clios, to the first ever Cannes Lions Grand Prix, and even a Grammy. Their work and opinions have been published in many design books and magazines all over the world. They have judged most of their industry’s major awards at one time or another and are in demand as speakers for Design and Marketing conferences. Bruce has had a particular interest in design education, as a judge, assessor and guest speaker at most of the UK’s top colleges. Bruce regularly contributes to several influential trade organizations. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a member of the D&AD executive board. David tends to be a bit more reclusive.
Bruce graduated from Kingston Polytechnic with an Honours Degree in Graphic Design in 1985. He worked at Michael Peters, Minale Tattersfield and Lewis Moberly before setting up Turner Duckworth. David graduated from St. Martin’s School of Art in 1984 with an Honors Degree in Graphic Design and worked at Minale Tattersfield (where he met Bruce) and Turner Studio before joining forces with Bruce.
